Designed as a fast moving attack vessel this class is fitted with a large phaser cannon on the bottom of the ship. Starfleet historians believe that this may be the cannon that Captain Picard seen attached to the bottom of the refitted future version of the Enterprise D. However since the Enterprise D was really destroyed it is hard to believe this to be the case. Q most likely made the cannon up.
